DuPage County Circuit Court, Illinois Implements DigitalBridge eWarrants Solution to Accelerate Bench and Search Warrant Process and Reduce Warrant Backlog

New electronic warrant process dramatically reduces time, costs, liability, and backlog in county of nearly one million residents

OREM, Utah - June 9, 2009

DigitalBridge, the leader in protected information sharing technologies and solutions for digital ecosystems, announced today that it has signed a contract to provide the DigitalBridge eWarrants solution to DuPage County Circuit Court, Illinois. After several months of successfully piloting the innovative electronic warrants system, DuPage County will expand the solution to expedite workflow process to both bench and search warrants in the state's second most populous county.

The DigitalBridge eWarrants solution makes the largely manual warrant process electronic, by allowing critical information to be securely shared in a protected manner. With the eWarrants solution, privacy is enhanced by eliminating paper-based steps without affecting legal due process. This means justice is dispensed more rapidly, accurately, and at dramatically lower taxpayer expense.

In 2008, DuPage County Circuit Court produced 15,000 bench warrants and 6,000 search warrants. Taking past history and area growth into account, 7.5 percent annual growth can be expected in each warrant type. In one existing DigitalBridge eWarrants implementation, warrants which typically took several days and cost over $260 per warrant, now require as little as 20 minutes and cost the court only 25 dollars per warrant.

Working with the DigitalBridge eWarrants system has given us the opportunity to manage an ever-increasing caseload workflow,“ said Chris Kachiroubas, DuPage County Circuit Court Clerk. "Using eWarrants enables each of the court locations to create, manage, review, and authorize electronic warrants -- saving taxpayer money, reducing court demands, and safeguarding individual privacy.

"DuPage County Circuit Court will see an immediate cost savings as the warrant process is securely automated using eWarrants. More importantly, the system improves and expedites court outcomes by providing all relevant information surrounding each specific warrant in context," said Terry Pitts, CEO of DigitalBridge. "We are very proud to help the Clerk improve services to the citizens of DuPage County while freeing up taxpayer resources better spent elsewhere," Pitts added.

In a March 2009 white paper by their Task Force on National Security in the Information Age titled "Nation At Risk", the Markle Foundation urges the adoption of technology which the DigitalBridge eWarrants solution currently provides. The automated eWarrants process ensures the complete, accurate, timely, and secure transfer of information, as well as the ability to exchange documents between agencies, the security of digital signatures on all documents, an immutable electronic audit log to track changes in the status of information, and the ability for authorized users to access current information about each warrant.
